Bariatric Surgery FAQs
Bariatric surgery is commonly known as weight loss surgery. The procedure is designed for people who are morbidly obese, with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 40 or higher. Bariatric surgery may also be an option for people who meet the classification of obesity (BMI > 30) and have additional health-related conditions such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and high cholesterol.
At our facility, we offer four weight loss surgery options: Orbera Gastric Balloon, Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass, Gastric Sleeve, and LAP-BAND. While these surgery options all result in weight loss, they utilize different two different methods. The first method reduces the size of the patient’s stomach. This method limits the amount of food the patient can consume, thus reducing calorie consumption. The second method involves altering the small intestine, which regulates nutrient absorption and alters the gut hormones.
In addition to these surgical options, we also provide bariatric revision. A revisional weight loss procedure is a good option for individuals who have started to regain weight years after bariatric surgery.
